Student Carmelita Brooker empowers teenage girls as a counselor and mentor.

A champion for young people, Carmelita Booker has a long history of social justice advocacy in the field of child welfare. A second-year student in Adler’s online program, she has advocated for children in the Midwest’s foster care system, volunteering as a counselor at camps for foster kids; orchestrating an awareness campaign for One Hope United, a nonprofit focused on compassionate intervention and education for abused and neglected children; and planning to become a court-appointed special advocate to help children in foster cases. Booker currently leads a small support group for high school freshman girls and is training to be a life coach for students facing anxiety and depression.
