Josefina Alvarez, Ph.D.

During her 10 years with Adler University on the Chicago Campus, Josephina Alvarez, Ph.D., has fulfilled many roles in addition to being a core faculty member. Dr. Alvarez served on numerous strategic task forces and committees to facilitate change and attention to social justice within our institution. She also serves as the advising faculty member of Adler Student Government, which nominated her for this award and praised her long history of advocating for students.

“Knowledgeable in the matters of serving communities and the nuances that must be understood in the work of community psychology, Dr. Alvarez incorporates the themes of social justice in her work and has dedicated her career to the betterment of communities and understanding how to work with underserved and marginalized groups,” said the leaders of Adler Student Government.

She is Board President for Mental Health America of the North Shore, and she was named the 2017 Unsung Heroine Award winner by the 13th Cook County Board District for her contributions to the community.
